Up, up & away!... PVBA taking flight in Year 5

Year 4 was just incredible! Over 500 participants joined our PVBA leagues, including a first-year Majors Division and two girls softball leagues (ages 6-12). Opening Day saw more than 1,000 attendees enjoy the barbecue and attractions.  The Spring Season was augmented by a hugely successful Fall season, which focused on instruction.  All in all, 2008 was a very good year for the development of our program and 2009 promises to be better.

At the conclusion of the 2008 fall season, the Putnam Valley Baseball Commission and the Putnam Valley Parks & Recreation Department have met several times to determine a course of action for the 2009 season, setting down a March 28th date for our parade and opening ceremonies at noon. That said, we shall continue to enhance our product from within for the 2009 season.

It is expected this 2009 Spring Season will bring close to 600 of Putnam Valley’s children to play Baseball and Softball in our Town Park.  Thank you for your continued support!

PVBA Monthly Newsletter

Hello all,

We hope this email finds you well.  As we are in the middle of the holiday season, we at the PVBA are thinking of what else but the Spring 2009 season!!!

Before we look ahead to 2009, we would like to look back at 2008 for a retrospective of our accomplishments as an organization...

Year 4 of the PVBA was just incredible! Over 500 participants joined our PVBA leagues, including a first-year Majors Division and two Girls Softball Divisions (ages 6-12). Opening Day saw more than 1,000 attendees enjoy the barbecue and attractions.  Overall approximately 44 teams played ball in PVBA leagues this past Spring!!! Overall play at all levels continued to get more and more competitive.  The Spring Season was augmented by a hugely successful Fall season, which focused on instruction. We also established our first Summer travel team for kids that play in PVBA (in affiliation with the PV/C travel baseball organization), and ran a Summer Developmental baseball program as well!  All in all, 2008 was a very good year for the development of our program and 2009 promises to be better.

At the conclusion of the 2008 Fall season, the Putnam Valley Baseball Commission and the Putnam Valley Parks & Recreation Department have met several times to determine a course of action for the 2009 season.  Here are some highlights of what you all can expect in 2009:

*  Better and more frequent communications with member families via email as well as our web site (www.pvball.org)

*  Continued growth and enhancement of our programs (It is expected this 2009 Spring Season will bring close to 600 of Putnam Valley’s children to play baseball and softball in our Town Park)

* Enhanced instruction and guidance for our coaches

* Continued fund-raising to assist us in providing better facilities in the future for our kids (such as batting cages, pitching machines, etc.)

* Enhanced Spring Training this Winter (details are still being finalized and will follow shortly)

*  Continued growth of the Travel Baseball opportunities for our kids

*  Parade and opening ceremonies on March 28th beginning at noon (yes we know what we are doing -   we know it's early but the Easter/Passover holidays and school breaks occur in early April)

The registration process for the upcoming 2009 season begins right now!  If you register in December, you will receive an early bird discount of 10%. Registration in person can occur in a number of ways:

Quote of the week:

“In terms of getting it right “on the field” : this was the most successful season we’ve ever had. Parity ran rampant & the kids had an absolute gas. I don’t care what anyone says.

CLOSING NOTES:

Okay, people; so here’s the deal. The on-field activity has been riveting stuff this season, but we still need lots more people to step up to the plate if we’re ever going to take this thing over the top. Lots more! It’s nice that people step up in a pinch, but it’s so much easier if we have an actual party/awards planning committee to help close out the season next year. I nominate the first 10 Moms who read this. In fact, why wait till next season. Start now! With three large leagues closing down this Saturday (rain or shine! on June 20th), I’m begging y’all to step up and pitch in. Don’t be shy. Get there early (10:30 am would be ideal).  Join me and Culinary Joe Nolan at the barby, baby!

Thanks in advance, Ray G

P.S. It’s painfully obvious that someone needs to take over the web site next season; perhaps someone with a smidge of time on their hands to tally our records and keep us bemused (in the form of tolerant amusement). Mr. Patterson, can ya think of someone off the top of your crown?

Congrats to the Orioles (Minors) and Rays (Majors) on their fantastic championship achievements!!!
